Learning French verb conjugation

French verbs change for six persons, from je to ils/elles, and teachers sort them into three groups. The 1st group is the -er verbs such as parler, the largest and most regular, though some change their spelling (nous mangeons, j'appelle, j'achète). The 2nd group is the -ir verbs that add -iss-, as in finir, nous finissons. The 3rd group holds everything else, and the irregular verbs worth drilling: être, avoir, aller, faire, prendre, venir. In the passé composé most verbs take avoir, and a short list of verbs of motion and every reflexive verb take être.

The French verb conjugation worksheet generator lets you take those one at a time. Start with the present tense of 1st group verbs, add the passé composé with avoir and then with être, and filter for 2nd group, irregular or reflexive verbs when your class reaches them. The fill-in boxes and the quick quiz come with an answer key on separate pages, and the verb chart prints every form filled in. To look up one verb, the French verb conjugation tables give every form of each verb on a page of its own: aller, allant, allé, with être.
