Learning German verb conjugation

German verbs change for six persons, from ich to sie/Sie, and most of them follow one of a few patterns. Regular (weak) verbs follow one pattern: machen, machte, gemacht. Strong verbs change their vowel, as in gehen, ging, gegangen, and those are the ones worth drilling. Separable verbs split in two (ich rufe an), and some verbs form the perfect with sein instead of haben.

The German verb conjugation worksheet generator lets you take those one at a time. Start with the present tense of regular verbs, add strong verbs in the Perfekt and the Präteritum, then filter for separable or modal verbs when your class reaches them. The fill-in boxes and the quick quiz come with an answer key on separate pages.

Learning the four German cases

German marks a noun's role with four cases: nominative, accusative, dative and genitive. Most of the change falls on the article, the adjective and the pronoun, so “the man” can be der Mann, den Mann, dem Mann or des Mannes. The prepositions that decide between the accusative and the dative, above all the two-way ones such as in and auf, are worth drilling on their own.

The German case worksheet generator lets you practice one piece at a time. Start with articles in the accusative and dative, add prepositions, then adjective endings once the articles are steady. Each worksheet comes with an answer key on separate pages, and the one-page case chart puts the article, adjective ending and pronoun tables on a single sheet.
